Why Your Bambu Lab Printer Clicks (And When to Get It Serviced)
Hearing odd clicks from your Bambu Lab printer? As a shop that professionally repairs Bambu FDM machines, here's our quick guide to what that click usually means — and when it's time to bring it in.
Common causes of clicking
1. Filament feed issues
The most common culprit. Wet filament, tangled spools, or a partially clogged nozzle can cause the extruder to click as it struggles to push filament. Try a fresh, dry spool first.
2. Nozzle wear or partial clog
If you've printed a lot of abrasive filaments (glow-in-the-dark, carbon fiber), your nozzle may be worn. A cold pull or nozzle swap often fixes it.
3. Belt or bearing noise
Clicks that happen during travel moves (not extrusion) can point to belt tension or a dry linear rail. Don't over-tighten — Bambu's wiki has the spec.
DIY checks to try first
- Unload and reload filament, check for tangles
- Dry your filament (especially PLA in humid Minnesota summers)
- Inspect the nozzle for buildup
- Check that the PTFE tube is seated fully
When to get professional service
Bring it in if:
- Clicking persists after filament swap and cold pull
- You see under-extrusion or failed prints alongside the noise
- It's been 6+ months of heavy use without maintenance
- You'd rather not risk a bigger repair
